A New Edition published by Richard Bentley & Son, London and printed by Spottiswoode and Co., London. Bound in dark tooled green cloth with title in gilt on spine. Gilt top page ends others uncut. Engraved frontispieces by Greatbatch after Pickering face the title page of each volume. A facsimile of Jane Austen from a drawing by her sister Cassandra faces the title page of Lady Susan. The set comprises: Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey & Persuasion, and Lady Susan. The Lady Susan volume contains A Memoir of Jane Austen by J E Austen Leigh, Lady Susan and The Watsons.
This is one of the last complete editions of Austen novels printed by Bentley, the firm being purchased by Smith, Elder in 1898. Some spotting on the protective tissues to the illustrations of MP, E, and NA&P others fine.
