Jane Austen lived here at Chawton in this 18th century village house, with her mother and her sister from 1809 until her early death in 1817. It was from this house that she wrote or revised her six great novels.

This cross-stitch kit is based on a water colour that Cassandra Austen painted of her sister Jane in 1804. One of the few portraits of Austen, she is shown sitting in countryside, which she so loved.

The design of this cross-stitch kit is based on accurate details taken from a sampler, which Jane Austen is thought to have worked when she lived at Steventon.
